I thought there was a long running joke about stacky and her WW underoos that translated into some Halloween costume.. Maybe not.

she has/had WW pajamas and i've seen them. and they did (when added to a WW robe) turn into a halloween costume.  but there were no pictures of it.  not that i can blame anyone for conjuring up such mental images.

WIPO: Green Lantern by jayhawk88 (4.00 / 2) #6 Thu May 22, 2008 at 10:22:06 AM EST
Engage Closet Comic Geek Mode:

CG is to the point where a full on, space opera, full blown GL Corps movie is possible. As much as I'd like to think you could make this movie from the start, it's probably asking too much to do so. So you make the first movie about Hal Jordan getting the ring, getting trained by Sinestro and eventually having to take him down, hinting at the Corps throughout, then introduce the Guardians and the Corps in the second movie.

I think it'd be nice by garlic (4.00 / 1) #7 Thu May 22, 2008 at 10:26:34 AM EST
to move on from the 'howd they turn into a superhero' 1st half of the superhero movie genre, and just go over that in like 10 minutes. sort of how the LOTR movies did the 10 minute ring introduction and then moved on.

I don't disagree by jayhawk88 (2.00 / 0) #8 Thu May 22, 2008 at 10:39:04 AM EST
But at the same time, origin stories are so critical to the whole super hero mythos thing. You take Hal Jordan, for example; his big thing is that he's a fighter pilot and "knows no fear", which is the major reason why he makes such a great Green Lantern. You have to tell Hal's back story, as it affects so much of the story going forward. This is true for many comic book characters: Spiderman, Superman, Batman, etc.

With, say, Frodo in LOTR, the store is the journey, and what the ring does to him on this journey, not his back story. Same with the Gimli/Legolas friendship, and even Aragorn to some extent (though arguably his backstory is important).

I'd like to see by spacejack (2.00 / 0) #10 Thu May 22, 2008 at 11:15:58 AM EST
a story that starts well after the character's origin - like Star Wars started with episode 4, dropping the audience right in the middle of the action. As if you happened to pick up issue #157 of some title at random and started in the middle of a big story arc. They could fill in any necessary backstory with a few flashback scenes, but it probably wouldn't even be necessary.

Comicbook character origins in movies are a bit funny in that the audience seems to want to see a story they already know.

Another idea I'd like to see: 3 or 4 separate 'issues' of a comic put together into one movie.

I'd be so afraid it would get screwed up, but with the right people to adapt to screenplay, and the right person behind the camera, I absolutely agree.

Let's see... by ObviousTroll (4.00 / 3) #12 Thu May 22, 2008 at 11:26:33 AM EST
Cerebus the Aardvark comes to mind... especially if they include his hysterical parodies of Elric, Red Sonja, Moonknight and Wolverine.

Who else?

The Tick deserves another stab at glory... Particularly if they can get Mickey Dolenz to do Arthur's voice again.

Drawn from a reference?!? Or is your Anatomy knowledge that good now? Either way, NICE!

Yeah from reference by spacejack (2.00 / 0) #16 Thu May 22, 2008 at 11:59:18 AM EST
I picked up a skull cast from the university bookstore last year, which is a nice thing to practice from.

When all that anatomy stuff was fresh in memory, I probably could've done most of it without a reference, except the lighting. Another artist friend has been bugging me about doing more shading, so it was mostly an exercise for that.

But my favorite comic book character, and one that would make an excellent series of shows or movies, is First's mid to late eighties Grimjack.

All superpowers are boring by lm (2.00 / 0) #23 Thu May 22, 2008 at 04:33:55 PM EST
Well, most of them are.

What makes a good comic book character isn't the superpower but the character. Some of the best comic books are about people with no superpowers at all.

So there actually was a JPII comic by Marvel. Sheesh.

Have you seen any of the show "Reaper"? It's not based on any comic character, but it's pretty much a comicbook show. Actually it's more of a lightweight comedy, but the devil character is quite well-written I think. And it's funny.

Let me google.

No, I've not seen it. I may have seen a teaser somewhere. It looks like the sort of thing I would enjoy.

I'd also like to see Wonder Woman . . . by slozo (4.00 / 1) #27 Fri May 23, 2008 at 09:35:07 AM EST
. . . but really, I think a few characters that have already been introduced in movies could be studied more in depth on their own. The Thing, Silver Surfer, Wolverine come to mind. All three of those have excellent stories, a search for identity/self, tons of angst, love stories, etc - everything you want in a tortured superhero.

I voted Thor though, because really, the world needs a solid movie about Norse mythology . . .

I've got the complete run of Dazzler by muchagecko (4.00 / 1) #28 Sun May 25, 2008 at 12:33:52 PM EST
in my comic book boxes. There have been rumors of movies about her several times.

I don't think there's a cheesier comic book character more worthy of having a movie. Jessica Alba would have been perfect to play her, except somebody already miscast her as Sue Richards.

Thanks for including her on your list.

I've thought about a Dazzler revival by spacejack (4.00 / 2) #29 Sun May 25, 2008 at 02:58:28 PM EST
I see her as living in her own little disco time-warp bubble, still wearing disco-era fashions and listening to that style of music, but set in present day. With rollerblades.

Nowadays though, she could use an iPod for music to charge her light powers. (With the caveat that if she only has one ear bud in, then she can only use her powers on that side of her body.)

I see the climactic fight against the villains happening at night on the rooftops, and just when you think she's done for, they crash through the roof of the biggest nightclub in town and then she mops up the baddies to the tune of Heart of Glass.

RIGHT ON!!! by muchagecko (4.00 / 2) #30 Sun May 25, 2008 at 04:53:47 PM EST
Exactly as I imagined her movie.

Maybe Forge could come up with some device that would help with the one-sided iPod/light powers problem.

Why aren't they working on this movie?
