work, domesticity, car, futile futons, stuff

1. Have to say I am really enjoying myself at work. New technologies, which are challenging, and rapidly trying to learn them is a lot of fun. I am also very busy. Which is cool, as a consultant you get under-utilised and spend a lot of time gathering work rather than doing it.

2. Wish this place had a Wegmans. Attention Dutch New Yorkers stop wintering in Florida, and winter in AZ instead.

3. The guy that dropped my car off couldnt tell me how many times he had crossed the US - he has done it so often. Before he picked up my car he went through South Carolina and then up to New Jersey before heading west to AZ and CA. He said he makes a lot of money this time of year from the 'snowbirds' who fly from NY/NJ to Florida and truck their cars in.

4. I dumped the rental last night. Had a Bulgarian taxi driver on the return. Nice fellow. He said that traffic in summer is not an issue, but winter there are a tonne of extra cars on the road because of people winterizing.

5. Phoenix only has about four major arterials which everyone travels on. In the morning the traffic reports are the same; there are at least four accidents, with one on each arterial. This is the city of traffic accidents.

6. Miles in commute: 23.7

7. Gas consumed in commute: 28.3 mpg

8. Time on commute: 30 mins

9. Summary: not too far off a mile a minute, and I shoot about a gallon of gas each time. That is not too much of an issue. The city is one big grid, so if there is genuine gridlock it is simple enough to work your way N/S on the traffic lights roads.

10. Bed base I bought wont arrive until the end of the month. (dammit).

11. Car when it came off the truck was filthy. The guy said the one up front are worse with all the bug splatter (mine was on the very back and didnt get moved on the trip). So I found a local car wash and spent some money to have it completely detailed, claybar'd and buffed. It looks awesome!

12. This place has a pool and gym. I have been hitting the pool nearly every night, and hit the gym the other night. Have to get my two bobs worth.

good produce, often a lot of local. Really cheap, lots of sales, and no "shopping experience" or $80 cheeses etc.

Of the car, the car. Mr. Gym & Pool. ;)

24 miles or so isn't a bad Phoenix area commute. When I was in high school, my job was at a resort hotel about that far from home.

If you're calling 14 hour days under utilised, I'd hate to see what you call deathmarch...

This is an error: Gas consumed in commute: 28.3 mpg

Plsfxkthx.

My commute is half the distance of yours and takes about the same span of time. Well, in the evenings. Mornings, it takes 15-20m. Evenings, it takes 30m.

if it wasnt for the pesky slowdowns I think my gas consumption rate might get to 30mpg. I live off an arterial and the office is just off one too. So I am pretty much 65mph the whole way and only four sets of lights to fight through.

The error is in units by lm (4.00 / 1) #12 Fri Nov 09, 2007 at 01:53:18 PM EST
I don't think I've ever seen a automobile that consumes mpg. Usually they consume units of something rather than miles per unit of something.

I've read that 45mph is the most fuel efficient speed for most cars. For maximum efficiency, you want to be at the lowest speed that will keep the transmission in top gear.

Of course on many freeways driving at 45mph is likely to get you a car driven up your tailpipe.
